KISTEM has built up a global network with domestic and foreign leading universities, university hospitals and laboratories and is carrying out collaborative studies including clinical trials for functional foods for the health of menopausal women, immunity boosting, body fat decrease, etc. and for new drug candidates such as stroke medicines. Natural materials studied in KISTEM include domestically collected herbs and high-quality medicinal herbs and healing plants in China, which are cultivated in the administered farms. It has a strict monitoring system about heavy metal, agricultural pesticides, etc., and only uses materials with uniform standard by analyzing reference substance. The institute has numerous laboratory equipment such as a fluorescent microscope, HPLC system, real time-PCR chemiluminescent imaging system, pilot spray dryer, freeze dryer, cryostat and HV.
